It all started when...
I raced my first mountain bike event in Southern California in 2014 — it was fun, friendly, and low-pressure, exactly the kind of vibe I wanted to create in my own races.
Since 2019, The Hammies has hosted mountain bike, trail running, and youth races. In 2020, a surge of under-12 racers inspired us to launch Little Hammies — fun, kid-focused bike races. It was an instant hit and has grown every summer since, expanding beyond Birmingham.
Now, we’re bringing Little Hammies across the Southeast — find a race near you!
Meet Max
Max is the organizer of The Hammies Races. He is passionate about anything with two wheels! As a competitor and cyclist himself, he knows what riders love and expect on race day!
What to Expect at the Events
A fun, laid-back race experience for your kids on their bikes!
Little Hammies offers a special experience just for your little riders!
Come early for warm up laps so your kids can familiarize themselves with the race course.
Each course is specially marked track for young kids and intended to be mostly visible for parents to watch.
Enjoy other activities and lots of other goodies for your kids to take home!
What’s included:
1. Race Number Plate -Numbers assigned at random.
2. Warm Up and practice laps on the course.
3. FREE sticker packs and Race Ribbons.

Event History
The Hammies has organized bike racing for kids around Birmingham for all ages. We have had many successful mountain bike and trail running races since 2019. Now we are offering a special race just for our little riders!
Course Details
Easy courses that are no more than 0.5 mile. 1-3 laps depending on age group. Most courses we offer included plenty of paved trails and grassy areas.
About Our Logo
Hammy the Hamster...
is from Birmingham and loves to get his hammies burning! The logo puts a fun twist to what would normally be a traditional logo of a bike wheel or gear.
